JELLYFISH
Personal project
Role: Responsible for all aspects

For this project, I wanted to focus on stimulations and procedural look development in Houdini. Before starting this project, I had the privilege to contribute to the production of Joteva Studio’s upcoming exhibition piece during my co-op. So, I also integrated some technique I learned from that into this project.

BREAKDOWN
For the geometry of the jellyfish, I used hair stimulation for the tentacles and cloth stimulation for the arms. I also scattered points around the tentacle geometry and used particle stimulation to create the gold emitted particle as the jellyfish swim.

I created a pattern attribute by painting along the bell and arms geometries. I then brought that pattern into Karma material builder and combined it with some procedural noise to create the mask used for color ramp to shade the jellyfish.

The god ray lighting was created with a combination of light projection and MaterialX, like noise, add, separate, etc. I also used MtlX time to add noise that can change over time to the intensity of the filter
